世界℃計

世界℃計は、離れて暮らす相手の場所の空気を、光の色として灯す照明です。一般的な世界時計が各地の時刻を示すのに対して、この作品は時刻を体感温度に置き換えています。

日本の単独世帯は2050年に44%を超えると推計され、育った家族と離れて暮らす人は増え続けています。メッセージや電話は誰かが送ろうと決めなければ始まりませんが、この照明には操作も確認も要りません。

円盤を二つ、それぞれの部屋に置くと、相手の場所の気温・湿度・風速・日射量と緯度経度から体感温度を求め、−10℃の青から40℃の赤までのひとつの色に変換して表示します。円盤は釘一本で壁に掛けられ、バッテリーを内蔵しているのでコードレスでも使えます。地点の設定と気象の確認には、専用のアプリケーションを用意しました。

WORLD CL℃K is a lamp that lights the air of a distant place as colour. Where an ordinary world clock shows the time in each city, this one replaces time with apparent temperature.

Single-person households in Japan are projected to exceed forty-four per cent by 2050, and the number of people living far from the family they grew up with keeps rising. A message or a call begins only when someone decides to send it; this lamp needs neither an action nor a check.

Two discs are placed in two rooms; each computes the apparent temperature of the other's location from air temperature, humidity, wind speed, solar radiation and coordinates, and maps it onto a single colour, from blue at minus ten degrees to red at forty. The disc hangs on a single nail and runs on an internal battery, so it can be used without a cord. A dedicated application handles the location settings and the detailed weather readings.
