はなさび

はなさびは、花を挿すと秒針が動きはじめ、抜くと止まる花瓶です。針が進むのは、花がそこにあるあいだだけです。

秒針が表現するのは時刻ではなく、時間の流れそのものです。花にも私たちと同じ時間が流れていることを感じたいと思い、制作しました。

画面も通知も持たせていません。花を挿す、抜くという、ふだんの所作だけで動く設計にしました。

Hanasabi is a vase whose second hand starts when a flower is placed in it and stops when the flower is taken out. The hand moves only while a flower is there.

What the second hand expresses is not the time of day but the passing of time itself. I made it wanting to feel that the same time flows for flowers as it does for us.

It has no screen and no notification. The only interface is the everyday gesture of placing and removing a flower.
